Rural Metro Honored by PETA For Rescue Efforts

Yuma, AZ September 16 Rural Metro is recognized by PETA for their relief efforts exceptional.

For 10 days, five weeks old puppies were two trapped inside an irrigation pipe on the property of a resident of Yuma. The Humane Society of Yuma has been working on saving the puppies, but after finding they need extra help they called Rural Metro to save.

Rural Metro was able to take the puppies from the pipe using a pole and a citrus picker. They tell News 13 they did not expect to be recognized by PETA and although they appreciate the gesture that is not why they did it.Charlie McMurdie said: "We received a 911 call about the puppies in distress and so we answered the call and when we arrived on the scene, we realized that we had some puppies in need and that we had to do what we could to save them. "

In addition, News 13 spoke with the Humane Society of Yuma and all five puppies are healthy and are currently in foster care until they can be placed for adoption.

For those interested in indoor or slower activities, Yuma offers gambling at the Quechan and Cocopah Indian gaming establishments within minutes of downtown Yuma. A new theater and restaurants along Main Street have been established. Lively music and art vendors arrive as well at the various festivals that Yuma sponsors.

If you are interested in crossing the border to experience Mexican cuisine, music and shopping, the greater Yuma area provides 2 borders to choose. The first in San Luis just a 25 minute drive south and the second is short 15 minute drive across the California border to a smaller Mexican town, Algodones.
