Creedence Clearwater Revisited revives '60s Southern rock spirit

"We haven't had any new material in 40 years, since Revival split," Cook said in a recent telephone interview. "But what we've got is memorable. The hardest part is choosing which songs we'll have to leave out because of time constraints."

CCR's distinctive swamp- and country-rock was a barrier-breaker, shoving over the pomp of '60s psychedelia.

The band helped solidify the Southern rock movement with its lyrics about bayous, catfish, the Mississippi River, traveling men and others.

These days, CCRevisited still meets the most enduring hits of the band that started it all, including "Susie Q", "Lodi," "Proud Mary," "Down on the Corner," "Fortunate Son" and "Who will stop the rain."

These days, members of the group include Cook, Clifford, John Tristao (People's band) on vocals, Steve Gunner on keyboard, acoustic guitar, harmonica, percussion and vocals, and Kurt Griffey (recorded with Eagles Revival, Creedence Clearwater , Toto, Steppenwolf and more) on guitar.

"Some of our songs have become even more relevant if possible," said Cook.

The politically charged "Who'll Stop the Rain" is "a question that still hasn't been answered," he said. "Meaning, when will this government bull---- stop?"

The song's universal topical appeal still packs a punch, 41 years after its original release. The gun control issue in "Run Through the Jungle" also is still applicable today.

And other songs, like the Dale Hawkins-written "Susie Q," never lose their flip and fun feel, even with an album length of more than eight minutes.

It's even better live, he said.

"Some things are just timeless and don't change," Cook said.

Shows are simple and modern, with "top-drawer" sound and light. It never gets old, he said.

"We reach our 17th year of me and 'dosage' Cosmo's around the globe. I never get tired of playing the songs. They are great songs, and we have a really great time with our audience. "

As he has aged - he is now 66 - has diversified its audience. A so his group.

"We have three generations of fans now," he said.

"We went from being just us guys in the band, our children to be part and now our grandchildren. We catch the full spectrum with our families and fans."
