Wolf-Tasker expands with new cafe and food store venture

Situated above the village of Daylesford and Wolf-Tasker's acclaimed The Lake House restaurant, the new Wombat Hill House operation is located in what was an original 1940's caretaker's cottage which has been completely gutted and resurrected as the cafe and store.

Wolf-Tasker said the cafe will feature a menu of "simple seasonal food, sourced locally wherever possible" while the store will offer take home "heat & eat" food, picnic and pantry provisions.

Wines made specially for the Wolf-Tasker's by local winemakers will be available by the bottle and glass.

A newly planted north facing kitchen garden will in the future be used to supplement the kitchen's needs with fresh herbs, salad leaves, some vegetables and fruit.

Wolf-Tasker said the picturesque Wombat Hills Gardens location holds a special place in her family's hearts having spent a lot of time in the area.

Established in the 1860s by Baron Ferdinand Von Mueller, who was also responsible for Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens, the 10.4 hectare Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens are regarded as one of Victoria's finest gardens.

I started taking photos in high school when I signed up for photography class in year nine. It was the perfect class, with a camera slung over my shoulder I could get out of the classroom and play around with my friends in the schoolyard. I quickly became enthralled with photography, the first art genre I was half good at. It allowed me to be outside and explore, to express myself, to capture fleeting moments and objects of interest on film.

The following year I broke school policy and signed up for photography classes again. Since then I’ve never really stopped taking photos and exploring the outdoors. After graduating with a photography degree from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia I traveled and sailed around the world. I worked in Melbourne for a period as a photographer’s assistant but yearned for some adventure and to see the big wide world. I signed up as a photographer working on a cruise ship that took me around the Caribbean exploring exotic locations in Jamaica, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Mexico and beyond for 14 months. I then traveled to Japan, around the US and all through Australia, backpacked most of India, parts of Thailand and enjoyed 6 months in and around the Mediterranean. At the age of 26 my wife and I moved to Brooklyn, New York where we lived for two years, immersed in the art and culture of the large, crazy city. We made it out the other side alive and completely intact and after 6 years of living like a nomad we are totally wrapped to once again call Melbourne home!
