Guidelines on choosing the correct tent

There are many ways to spend time outdoors. Fishing, hunting, hiking, boating and other activities you will get out, however, nothing allows you to go out into the outdoors and stay more camping.

In today's economy of high fuel prices and rising costs for everything, away from the daily and be able to put your feet up, relax and enjoy nature with the sounds of crackling campfire can really help you to maintain your sanity. Likewise, getting away with the family for a week or two of vacation can put a dent in your check book, and camping is a way to keep that price tag under control.

One of the most important parts of a camping trip is your lodging. Sure, you can camp in RVs, trailers, cabins and all sorts of hard-walled palaces, however, the most often-used and least expensive abode for campers is the tent. Over the years I have camped in just about every type of tent ranging from simple lean-to’s and Civil War-era wall tents to multi-room canvas apartments.

The evolution of the tent started centuries ago when man first sewed together some animal skins to make a crude tent. In today’s world, modern materials and construction techniques have made the tent lighter, more compact and more durable.

Tent fabrics vary, and include canvas, nylon and polyester. All have their advantages, as well as their drawbacks. Canvas, for instance, is thicker and heavier and needs to be coated with paraffin to be waterproof. Canvas tents are preferred for long-term camping, especially if they are going to be left up for long periods of time. They are also a lot sturdier and warmer for winter camping.

Nylon and polyester tents are lighter and more compact, however, they are more susceptible to damage from ultra-violet light. While both materials will not absorb water, they still have to be treated with silicone or polyurethane coating. They are susceptible to leaking around their seams and stitchings, and thus need to be treated with seam sealer.

Choosing the right tent has several criteria, the most important of which are how you intend to use the tent and your wallet. If you have a permanent campsite and/or will be leaving your tent up for long periods of time, a canvas tent will be your best choice. If you will be short-term camping, backpacking or are strapped for room in your vehicle, a nylon or polyester tent will make a better choice.

The one nice thing about modern tents is that even the less expensive tents, with a little care, can be made to last a long time. Modern materials and manufacturing processes have made tents a lot more durable, thus tents come in a wide range of configurations and price ranges.

Just cut, heat the ends in boiling water and place the metal tube at both ends. I think some small bands should be included as well. I installed the fuel line and controlled and there are no leaks. VERY IMPORTANT! I had a fire in the engine the next day. I'm not saying it was because the fuel line was too far away to tell the cause, but was in the same area.
