Beardsworth Consulting Group Takes the Podium at DIA 2011
FLEMINGTON, N.J.--( BUSINESS WIRE )-- Beardsworth Consulting Group , Inc. takes the podium at the 47th DIA Annual Meeting (June 19 – 23, 2011 in Chicago, IL) with three presentations on clinical trial ethics, publication standards and global trial models.
Dan Diaz , Vice President Business Development, will chair a panel session entitled New Global CRO Models for Small-sized CROs .
Recent economic conditions challenged niche contract research organizations (CRO) to be more creative and flexible to new models for operational growth. An experienced group of international regional CROs combined forces to develop a new solution for global clinical trials. The panel will discuss the process strategy of ‘going global’, both from the CRO and sponsor perspective, along with governance issues of cross-border strategic alliances.

Combining presentation, discussion and case studies, the workshop will provide an overview of ethical considerations including subject informed consent, investigatory conflict of interest and patient protections.
Art will also chair the publications workshop Does Your Company Policy Pass the Red-faced Test? addressing the scientific and ethical obligations around industry-sponsored medical publications. As many readers will know, the meeting of the G20 here in Toronto last summer was not, on the whole, a happy experience. Protestors, both peaceful and otherwise, were plentiful, and there were serious questions about the way the Government, and in particular the Toronto Police Service, conducted themselves. No one came out looking very good. Protestors torched cop cars and broke shop windows. Some of the tactics used to quell the riot resulted in accusations of police brutality.

Any regulatory system — whether a system of policing criminality or a system of vetting new pharmaceuticals — requires safeguards to make sure that those who wield regulatory power wield it wisely. That’s why police forces have systems for hearing complaints from citizens and for investigating wrongdoing by their own officers. And it’s also why regulatory decisions are typically subject to parliamentary oversight and judicial review. With great power comes great responsibility. Self-regulation is crucial for those given the power to enforce rules. Such self-regulation can take many forms. First and foremost, it needs to include individual self-regulation and the adoption of principles of integrity and good conduct.
