Mustangs picked fourth by Texas Football

The magazine also says that District 24-4A is the toughest football district in the state, and that Friendswood will reach the Class 4A Division I regional championship game.

La Marque is projected to win the district title and Manvel is picked to finish second. Dawson is picked third, followed by Friendswood.

The Eagles are picked to defeat Friendswood in the Region III-4A championship game.

The magazine also pegs defending Class 5A Division I state champion Pearland to win District 24-5A this fall.

Pearland, which fashioned a perfect 16-0 season last year that included wins over perennial powers Katy and Euless Trinity, is tabbed to take the district title over the magazine’s other three playoff choices – Clear Springs, Clear Creek and Dickinson.

While picking the Oilers to win district may not be a shock, somewhat more surprising is that Texas Football ranked Pearland fifth in the state, despite the fact that the Oilers lost almost all of their offensive starters

In the state-wide Class 4A rankings, La Marque comes in at No. 5, Manvel is No. 14, Dawson is No. 19 and Friendswood is No. 22.

District 24-4A is the only league to have four teams ranked in the top 25.

Dawson offensive tackle Kennedy Estelle, who has committed to the University of Texas, was chosen to the magazine’s Super Team, selected as a first-team tackle. The 16-year-old senior is 6-feet, 7-inches tall and weighs 308 pounds.

Manvel defensive lineman Taiwan Johnson was chosen to the second team defense. Johnson is a 6-3, 245-pounder.

Texas City, Santa Fe and Galveston Ball are picked to finish fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, in District 24-4A.

In Class 5A, Texas Football predicts that Katy will defeat Pearland in the Region III final.
