The 8 Ball 6.1.11: Top Driving Songs (#40-#33)

With that, Summer is officially here! Whether you take the Harley out, drop the roof or simply open your windows, we all love taking our cars/motorcycles on the road. We also love to listen to music when we drive. That is the inspiration for this 5 week long countdown of my favorite songs to drive to. Now, you may be asking yourself, "What makes a really good driving song?". I'll tell you. Whether you're taking a short cruise, blasting down the highway or yelling at the asshole that just cut you off, a good driving songs makes you happy to be behind the wheel while that song is playing. This is by far the most difficult list I have ever made. I hope you all like the songs I've chosen. Keeping with the "8 Ball" tradition, every week I will present 8 new songs off of the list until 4 weeks from now when I will reveal to you all what I believe is the greatest driving song of all time. I'm starting this list off with The Doors because The Doors is one of those bands you just can't hate. This band has a quality that everyone liked. For women, it was Jim Morrison and his on stage antics. For music freaks it was their unique style of presenting their music. For stoners all across the country, along with Bob Marley, The Doors was THE stoner music. For me though, they make great driving songs, and LA Woman is the best one out of all of them. It was a really close call between this song and "Love Me Two Times". This song is a good choice for speeding (not that I suggest you do) and a good song to blast if your in a road rage mood. Tom Morello organized a brilliant guitar riff and the vocals of Zack De La Rocha are top notch. When he goes "Fuck you I won't do what you tell me!" multiple times, I just imagine you sing that in your head as you get pulled over by a cop. In my opinion, there is no such thing as a bad Ramones song. I listened to their entire catalog and I struggled to find a song I didn't like. This is by far their most famous song and I find myself cranking my radio up when the stations play it or if it comes up on my iPod on shuffle mode. Is it the best Ramones song? No. However, it's a great driving song. Because of the JJ Abrams (amazing) Star Trek film, anytime I hear this song I will think of young Kirk running away from the Police in that awesome looking Corvette. If you were a bank robber, this would be a great song to have on your stereo.

My Recommendation: Airbourne - Runnin' Wild

Started back in 2003 by the brothers Joel and Ryan, they released their first independent eight track EP Ready To Rock in 2004 to some acclaim and then signed up a deal with Capitol Records. In 2006 they moved to the United States to work on their first international studio album Runnin’ Wild, since then they have changed record deals, appeared on Guitar Hero and done a ton of live shows. The song that I’m recommending today is the title track from their second album Runnin’ Wild, an all out hard rock number with loud vocals, a lot of screaming, thrashing guitars and similarities to the greatest hard rock act of all time AC/DC and this one thing has been following them throughout their career, they have been accused of being a copy of AC/DC and this is what they have to say about it "Whoever you are when you come out, especially if you’re from Australia and you sound like we do, you’re going to get compared to anyone who is out there. It doesn’t matter who you are, you are going to get compared to somebody.
